Chromebook Shutting Off
Chromebook Not Turning On:
-
Close the lid of your Chromebook.

Plug in your Chromebook power cord into a wall outlet and then plug the other end into your Chromebook.

Open the lid of your Chromebook without pressing any keys
-
After a few seconds you just might see that beautiful white screen with the Chrome logo on it. In my experience after doing this once the power button works again.
How to Update the Chromebook:
-
Click on the three dots at the top of the screen
-
Click Help
-
Click About Google Chrome
-
Click Check for updates
-
Chromebook MUST REMAIN OPEN and untouched
-
A button will pop up saying “Restart” - click this button and now your Chromebook is up to date! *
Rotated Screen:
-
Press ctrl+shift+refresh. The refresh key is the open circle with the arrow on the end. This makes your screen rotate 90 degrees so keep doing this until the screen is back in correct position.
Inverted Colors:

Inverted screen color looks similar to a photo negative

To change colors back to normal, click the photo in bottom right corner

Click Settings (bottom left corner)
-
Scroll to bottom of Settings and select Advanced
-
Under Accessibility choose Manage Accessibility Features
-
Go to Display
-
Uncheck high contrast mode
Keyboard Displayed on Screen:

Click the photo in bottom right corner
-
Click Settings (bottom left corner)
-
Scroll to bottom of Settings and select Advanced
-
Under Accessibility choose Manage Accessibility Features
-
Go to Display
-
Uncheck enable on-screen keyboard
Magnified Screen:
-
Click the photo in bottom right corner
-
Click Settings (bottom left corner)
-
Scroll to bottom of Settings and select Advanced
-
Under Accessibility choose Manage Accessibility Features

Go to Display
-
Uncheck enable full-screen magnifier
Cursor/Touchpad Not Working:
-
Make sure there is no dust or dirt on touchpad

Press escape key several times
-
Drumroll your fingers on touchpad for 10 seconds
-
Turn Chromebook off then turn it back on
Choosing US keyboard:
-
Go to system menu (photo in bottom right corner)
-
Go to keyboard and make sure US Keyboard is checked
Circle Around Mouse:
-
Go to accessibility in the system menu (found the the bottom right corner of chromebook screeen)
-
Click on “automatic clicks” & unselect the green check mark
Showing Accessibility in the System Menu:
-
Click bottom right corner box (system menu)
-
If accessibility is not showing in the menu, click on gear symbol in bottom left corner of system menu

In search box, type in “accessibility”
-
toggle slider to “always show accessibility options in system menu.”
Enter Old Chromebook password:
-
To unlock and restore your local data, please enter your old chromebook password.
-
Click “forgot your old password”
Change back to English language:
**Find someone whose chromebook is in English to follow along

Sign in to your device
-
Click on your account picture, in the lower right-hand corner

Select Settings (gear)
-
Scroll down to the bottom of the page, click Advanced (bottom center words)

Under Language & Input Settings (if in Spanish = “idomas y metodos de entrada”) 4th set of boxes under advanced), change language back to English
-
Restart your Chromebook
Look up username login for a student:
-
Ask a friend or teacher to help using their Google email account
-
Click “Compose”
-
In the “To” box, type in the students first or last name
-
Look for the students email address/username as they are filtered in the box
The Cursor is too big:
-
Click on profile pic located on bottom right hand corner

Click on the settings wheel
-
When settings open, click on settings menu in top left hand corner
-
Click on accessibility
-
Click on manage accessibility features
-
Scroll down to mouse and touchpad features
-
Turn off “show large mouse cursor.”
The camera isn't working:
- Open the brower
- Next to the search bar, click the lock symbol
- Click "Allow" next to camera
